RnB/Hip Hop | Monday 17th June 2013 | Emma
Jay-Z officially promoted his 12th studio album during halftime on Sunday's NBA Final game between the Miami Heat and the San Antonio Spurs. Samsung Galaxy TV commercial not only promotes the new album Magna Carta Holy Grail but also promotes some huge innovations in mobile phones music sharing.
The commercial shows Jay-Z and other producers like Timbaland, Pharrell Williams, Swizz Beatz and Rick Rubin talking about this innovative new plan for music sharing revolution. Jay-Z compares the Internet to The Wild Wild West, which doesn’t have any rules, and this is why he said “We need to write the new rules.”
The idea is simple. Samsung bought 1 million Magna Carta Hol Grail albums from Jay-Z for $5 each and will give them free to Samsung Galaxy users. Starting June 24 all of the Galaxy Smartphone users in America will be able to download an app on their phones. This application will allow the first million users to download the new Jay-Z album for free.
On July 4th 12.01 am ET app officially unlocks album 72h before on sale release. It will be some kind of reward for Jay-Z fans and Samsung users.
In the commercial the rapper shares his thoughts on how to shake up online music streaming. "The idea is to really finish the album and drop it. Giving it to the world at one time and letting them share it, and it goes out," said Jay-Z. With the help of Samsung company and Internet Galaxy users will be able to share app with other Galaxy owners through Facebook, Twitter, or S Beam.
“The next big thing” is Samsung's slogan and it really fits the bill when it comes to this new way of album sharing. Jay-Z, who describes the album as "about, like this duality of how do you navigate through this whole thing, through success, through failures, through all this and remain yourself."
Jay-Z decided to follow steps of his wife Beyone, who also used a TV commercial to promote her new music. She has used “Grown Woman” and “Standing on the Sun” from her new upcoming album as background music for several adverts and it has been a huge success for the star. Now we will have to wait and see if the “new rules” wrote by Jay-Z will be also successful.
