Reading Festival 2010

Ankle-deep in mud, torrential rain and squeezing into a tent - there is only one occasion when it’s OK to spend your weekend like this, and it’s the one and only Reading Festival!

As a first timer at Reading, I definitely wasn’t disappointed. The festival lived up to it’s reputation of being muddy, crazy and most importantly, filled with great music.

Kicking off the weekend I managed to drag myself out of the mud to see Billy Talent, Mumford and Sons, Lost Prophets and Biffy Clyro - just an average Friday afternoon! The only let-down came when Gun N’ Roses left us standing around for an hour in the cold, and when they finally showed up (to the unhappy crowd’s chants of “We want Slash!!”), their set was a disappointment... Nevertheless, we spent the night partying to make up for it - who knew getting drunk in the mud would be so much fun?!

Saturday brought much more musical heaven with the likes of The Libertines, Arcade Fire, Mystery Jets and 3OH!3 all playing sets which got the crowd going crazy! Saturday’s highlights however had to be Dizzee Rascal, Rotating Leslie and Atari Teenage Riot. You may think this is a crazy mix of music but that is exactly what a festival like this is all about - different music bringing everyone together in a fun but somewhat messy musical love-out! Saturday night brought more fun as we met our neighbours - one of whom included a South African wearing hot pink jeans who enjoyed sticking his hands into open fire...

Last of all Sunday was definitely the day to rock out. Amongst the hot line-up were Limp Bizkit, Cypress Hill, Klaxons, Roots Manuva, Magnetic Man and Blink 182 who left all 90,000 ravers fully musically satisfied - and the night went out with a bang - quite literally with some minor explosions around camp.... We won’t tell if you don’t!

Top Festival Tips!

- Always come prepared!! Top things to bring: wellies, sun cream, chairs and beer.

- Go and see at least one artist that you have never seen before, you’re bound to discover someone you’ll want to go and see again - I know I did!

- Go with the flow! You never know who you’re going to meet, carry a chair and a beer with you wherever you go and get ready to settle round a campfire!
